Another fast paced mystery from Altabef

“This is much more than the usual Sherlock Holmes story, it is a rich tapestry of relationships. Especially the friendship between Holmes, Watson, and Mrs. Hudson.”

5-Star Amazon Review by Demetrius

Once again, Gretchen Altabef shows her talents as an author. In The Keys of Death she creates a new format with interesting new characters, a unique story line, and a young Sherlock Holmes very far from the old boring stereotype. Ms. Altabef portrays him as an open-minded genius who feels strongly about the world. Her Holmes reminds me of how Albert Einstein saw the world around him.

This is another fast paced mystery from Altabef. The characters alone make this adventure interesting and unusual. New forces to be reckoned with are Arsene Lupin, West African pirate, Félix Calabar, Lily Langtry, and even the Prince of Wales. Her harmonious combination of these unique personalities make for masterful storytelling.

There are four narrators telling parts of the same story, sharing the same point-of-view. Mrs Hudson begins with the recounting of her first meeting with Mr. Sherlock Holmes. Doctor Watson picks up the tale after moving into 221B Baker Street. And even Holmes takes over for a scene.

Altabef’s history of the day, is one of her many strengths. I cheered on the successful fight for women’s freedom. The Keys of Death won’t let you down, when you close its pages, the characters stay with you. This is much more than the usual Sherlock Holmes story, it is a rich tapestry of relationships. And especially the friendship between Holmes, Watson, and Mrs. Hudson.

Gretchen Altabef is an Award-Winning MX author of Sherlock Holmes novels. Mondadori Publishing has contracted to translate These Scattered Houses into Italian. Ms. Altabef strives to emulate Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s literary style. Adding a news reporter’s love of history and knowledge of mean city streets. The first, These Scattered Houses, is in Holmes’ own voice and resourcefully chronicles the last two months of his ‘great hiatus’. The second in the series is, Remarkable Power of Stimulus. After 3 years away, Holmes finds London awash in murders, No. 221B under siege, anarchists threatening Paris, and the return of Irene Adler. Fully aware he is being watched by Moriarty’s men, Holmes steps out of the cab into Baker Street knowing he will find Watson’s friendship and unerring aim are as dependable as the British Rail. THE KEYS OF DEATH is the genesis story of the world’s most famous address, No. 221B Baker Street.
