Stupendo! Splendido! Exciting news!

Italian publisher Mondadori will be publishing an Italian language version of Sherlock Holmes These Scattered Houses in their Il Giallo Mondadori 2022-2023 Sherlock Holmes series. This is a great honor. I am excited that my Italian American Marcello family will be speaking Italian in these books! Of course so will Holmes and the unique villain he faces. Grazie molto, Mondadori and Luigi Pachì, the editor of it’s Sherlock Holmes series.

In the company of names like David Stuart Davies, Lyndsay Faye, Nicholas Meyer, Amy Thomas, and the best Italian pastiche authors.”

My friend, Michele, better known as John Sebastian Moran in Sherlockian circles offered: “Mondadori chose, five years ago, to bank on the current wave of Sherlock Holmes’s renewed fame, and this particular ‘Sherlock’ series counts now 80 issues. You’ll find yourself in the company of names like David Stuart Davies, Lyndsay Faye, Nicholas Meyer, Amy Thomas, as well as the best Italian pastiche authors. My friend Luigi Pachì is the editor of the series and he’s doing a very good job.”

Mondadori has been in the publishing business since 1907. They own the prestigious 5th Avenue Rizzoli Bookstore. Have 575 stores throughout Italy, publish Grazia magazine. Could there be a future book signing event at Rizzoli in my future?

Photo shows Jeremy Brett as Sherlock Holmes in The Final Problem. Holmes is in disguise as an elder Italian priest in an attempt to escape from Professor Moriarty’s clutches. His smile is to Watson, who has no idea, that underneath this buffa make-up is Holmes.

Gretchen Altabef is an MX author of Sherlock Holmes novels. Mondadori Publishing has contracted to translate her novels into Italian. Ms. Altabef strives to emulate Dr. John Watson’s and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s literary style. The first, These Scattered Houses, is in Holmes’ own voice and resourcefully chronicles the last two months of his ‘great hiatus’. The second in the series is, Remarkable Power of Stimulus. After 3 years away, Holmes finds London awash in murders, No. 221B under siege, anarchists threatening Paris, and the return of Irene Adler. Fully aware he is being watched by Moriarty’s men, Holmes steps out of the cab into Baker Street knowing he will find Watson’s friendship and unerring aim are as dependable as the British Rail.
