It is remarkable that audiobooks now represent more than half of Sherlock Holmes Books sales – more than print and eBook together. Celebrating March Women’s History month, MX Publishing is focusing on the women authors in it’s midst.

Female mystery authors of the 1920s and 30s like Sayers, Allingham, and Christie, were the queens of mystery’s Golden Age. Today’s women Sherlock Holmes authors are bringing new perspectives to the present Sherlockian literary explosion. For me, writing about Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s stories from a woman’s point of view, plus adding the history of the women of his day, is such delightful inspiration. To record how Sherlock’s and John Watson’s lives might be effected by their changing times, when women fought mightily for their most basic rights, during the rule of Victoria Regina, is an altogether fascinating experience.

The excitement began with These Scattered Houses. In my first Sherlock Holmes mystery, he was undercover in New York as a wounded Professor Sigerson and completely bereft of Watson. All my anxiety about how this would go over was quashed by the assignment of my most wonderful Scottish narrator, J. T. McDaniel. From his first word, it was clear that Dr Watson was telling the story.

Narrators make or break an audiobook. My book becomes a collaboration and I get to enjoy with my readers the joy of hearing it performed by a fine voice actor. Sherlock Holmes novels, Remarkable Power of Stimulus, Five Miles of Country, and The Keys of Death followed.

Presently, Sherlock Holmes Far And Wide storybook is in line for it’s transformation into an audiobook. It’s already available as an eBook. The official release date is May 6, 2025.
